Of course, we think that all Postconsumers are beautiful just by their nature! This month’s content theme at Postconsumers is “In Your Medicine Cabinet” and we’re talking both about ways that consumer messages regarding beauty products can impact you as well as more eco-friendly ways to address health and beauty needs. If you’ve browsed Pinterest for even five minutes, then you know that home facials are one of the ways in which you can buy less and be friendlier to the planet. In fact, for all we complain about them, the Millennial generation has this area nailed. Studies show that they use more homemade beauty products than any generation before them. We don’t think that’s true since we still use our grandma’s recipe for a coffee ground facial, but the idea makes us happy. Today, we thought we’d share four recipes for home facials that are good for your wallet, good for the planet and good for your skin!

Our Favorite: The Pumpkin Face Mask

We love this one. The antioxidants in pumpkin help to restore your skin from UV exposure and pollution, and the natural exfoliating fruit acids give you a beautiful glow. It’s by far our favorite.

Pumpkin Face Mask

You’ll Need:

2 Tablespoon

s of Fresh Cream

4 Tablespoons of Pumpkin Flesh

3 Tablespoons of Honey

Directions

It’s so simple! Just mix all of the ingredients together. The more you stir and mix it, the better your mask will be. But the truth is that even if your mask is lumpy it will still be effective. Then just apply it and leave it on for ten-to-fifteen minutes once a week. Of course, we recommend using this mask while enjoying a seasonal hot cider (with or without some whiskey)!

Dry Skin: Sweet Honey Mask

Honey isn’t just a natural sweetener, it’s also incredibly good for your skin. We like to think of this mask as the gateway to the land of milk and honey! Even if it’s not, we’re sure you’ll love every second of it.

Honey Face Mask RecipeYou’ll Need:

2 Tablespoons of Honey

2 Tablespoons of Flour

2 Tablespoons of Milk

Directions

Mix all the ingredients until fully blended. Then use a brush to apply in an even layer to your face. Leave the mask on for fifteen to twenty minutes. Take that time to read a chapter from a book you’re enjoying. It’s “you time” that also results in healthy, lovely skin!

Detoxify Your Skin: Green Tea Mask

Even if you take great care of your skin and eat a natural diet, the chances are that you’ll need to detoxify the results of everyday pollution and toxins. Green tea is ideal for this both when drunk as well as when used topically.

Green Tea Face Mask RecipeYou’ll Need

3 Tablespoons of Green Tea

1 Tablespoon of Aloe Vera Gel

1 Tablespoon of Honey

1 Tablespoon of Kaolin (a white clay found in herbal medicine departments)

Directions

Begin by mixing the green tea, aloe vera and honey. When those three ingredients are well mixed, begin to slowly add the Kaolin clay. After the entire mixture has blended, put the mask in the refrigerator for at least ten minutes. Finally, apply the mask to your face for ten minutes twice a week – while relaxing with a cup of the main ingredient!

Skin Soothing: Cucumber Mask

You’ve no doubt seen the pictures of women using cucumbers around their eyes. There’s a good reason for that. Cucumbers hydrate and cool the skin. If you have skin that feels uncomfortable, often because it’s overly oily or dry, then this mask is ideal for you.

Cucumber Face Mask RecipeYou’ll Need:

½ a Cucumber

1 Egg White

1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice

1 Teaspoon Mint

Directions

Puree all of the ingredients and refrigerate them for ten minutes. Apply to your face and leave on for approximately ten minutes, twice per week. Soothe your mind as well as your skin by also listening to some relaxing music while enjoying your mask.

Of course, there are dozens of other recipes, and we’re also guessing that you have some of your own! Did we miss a facial recipe that you love?  Share it with us. Comment below or tell us about it on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram.
