With the end of the summer into fall, that means all kinds of stressful things are happening – the start of school, allergy flare-ups, a change in schedule from the summer – and they can end up taking a toll on your body before you even realize what’s going on! Those who are going green might not be looking for the usual ways to deal with stress and are looking to go for a more natural (and sometimes cheaper) route to reducing stress and improving your health as the leaves change and the climate cools. There are plenty of easy ways to make natural remedies for stress relief. They can be a wonderful supplement to other healthy habits like exercise and diet that help contribute to a stress-free lifestyle! Here are some easy things you can do to take some time out to de-stress:

  • Essential Oils in the Bath: A few drops of an organic essential oil like rose, sandalwood, jasmine, or lavender (and many other kinds of oils) is one of the easiest ways to have a soak while having some aromatherapy at the same time. Use the time as a way to wind down from your day or put on some nice music while you’re relaxing. Essential oils are not only better smelling, but they also soak into your skin, leaving you smelling fabulous afterward! A long soak in a hot bath with some essential oil before bed can not only get you to sleep faster, but the smell will give you some good-smelling, low-stress feelings before you fall asleep.
  • Essential Oils in Homemade Candles: If you’d like to do some aromatherapy with candles, they too are a great way to de-stress – not only do you have a focus making the candles, but you can use them in the bath, in your room, or anywhere else where you’d like to create a calming place in your home. If you have kids you can have them join in (carefully!) on the fun, and it only takes about 24 hours to make them.
  • Drinking Herbal Teas: There’s something very meditative about making yourself a cup of tea, and using all-natural herbs that will relax you after a bad day or long week. Chamomile is the go-to relaxer when it comes to herbal teas, so it’s easy to find in stores, either in bag or loose-leaf form. Another great herbal tea is passion flower, which is also good to drink in the morning as a way to stimulate your nerves and get you going.
  • B-Vitamin Supplements: While we wouldn’t recommend going crazy with vitamin supplements (after all, a balanced diet can give you all the vitamins you need!), if stress has made you feel low-energy, the occasional organic B-Vitamin supplement can give you a little boost during your day. Take one in the morning and feel naturally energized all day!
  • Yoga or Tai-Chi: Not only do natural remedies involve essential oils, herbs, and other organic items, some relaxing physical activities are a good way to de-stress while also having some health benefits. A tai-chi session in the morning is a good way to clear your head while focusing on how you direct your energy. A yoga session in the morning or even the afternoon can help you focus your breathing and get you nice and stretched out for the day, or even help you recover from a rough day in your life. And even better, you’ll get some great physical benefits!
