With November in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about what we’re grateful for this year. Some of these are places, some are people. Here are 10 things we’re thankful for this year (besides being grateful for all the useless stuff we don’t own)!

  1. Thrift Stores: Whether you’re shopping for “new” seasonal clothes, a funky accessory, or even looking for ideas for costumes, thrift stores are a win-win all around. Clothes are recycled, you save money, and charities benefit.
  2. Independent Merchants: Not only do they tend to sell products at a better price, when you buy independent, you contribute money that goes back into your community.
  3. Reusable Water Bottles: If you invest in one reusable item in your life, make it a reusable water bottle. You’ll cut down on water bottles going to landfills and reduce your carbon footprint.
  4. Change: 2011 has been a year of amazing changes happening in the world. From the Arab Spring sparking protests in countries like Egypt to the recent Occupy Wall Street movement, people are making change happen in the world. What kind of changes have you made this year?
  5. More Consumer Movements: The economy has sparked people to start thinking about their consumption and the media messages they’re bombarded with every day. Besides postconsumerism, threads that are “unconsumerist” and “anti-consumption” are showing that people are starting to wake up to the “More Machine.”
  6. Sustainable Food: Like buying from independent merchants, buying local, sustainable food is a budget saver, and more farmers’ markets are popping up all over the country. Not only are people saving money, they’re eating healthier, too. Win!
  7. Hitting Goals: Whether it’s a list of to-do items that was conquered, to lowering bills, to getting that much closer to erasing debt, reaching goals that we set out to hit is the best kind of way to get satisfied!
  8. Friends And Family: Whether they live down the street or across the country, the people we love the most are the most important to us. No matter what happens in our lives, having the ones we love is awesome.
  9. Stress Relief: No matter if it’s taking comfort in the arts, volunteering, or even just growing herbs on the windowsill, taking time out to de-stress and have a moment to ourselves is a good thing, any time of year.
  10. You!: Thank you, our fearless readers and commenters, for supporting us! Your insights, retweets, and “likes” on Facebook have shown us some love!
