I absolutely love a video I saw this week called “29 Ways To Stay Creative.” Along with contributing here to Postconsumers, I also write fiction and poetry, and found that I actually do a lot of the suggestions on the list: I keep a notebook with me all the time, I drink coffee, listen to new music, surround myself with creative people, allow myself to make mistakes.

 

Even if you’re not a writer or what you’d consider traditionally creative, these are all great ideas for keeping creativity in your life, because we’re all creative in our own ways, and it should be cultivated! One of the best ways to move beyond consumerism is to move toward creativity big time!

 

My favorite is #29. When I met my favorite fiction writer Neil Gaiman 10 years ago, I asked him what would be the best advice he could give young writers and he simply said, “Finish things.” And it’s so true – the sense of accomplishment is something that’s absolutely priceless.
