We’re going to talk about food miles again. Buying food isn’t just about the groceries that you buy. It’s also about your baked goods, your birthday and celebration cakes, even your alcohol. The more that you emphasize buying locally produced products, the more you’re helping both the planet and your local community. Instead of buying a cake from your large chain grocery store or big box store, buy one from a local artisan baker. Put down the mainstream beer and look for local microbrews. Every time you “shop small” you’re working against large industry pollution and supporting small, sustainable, healthy businesses.
