It’s not just that it’s better to look for environmentally and socially conscious places to shop, it’s also about how you get there. We’ve mentioned food miles many, many times so far. Can you bike or walk to groceries? If there’s an option where you can, then you should take that option! It also matters how frequently you shop. If shopping means driving, then it’s better to bundle your grocery trips into less trips. That means buying more wisely so that you don’t waste because you over bought. Walking or biking to get groceries is also healthier for you – and when you have to carry what you bought you often make better decisions about “less is more.”
